Getting Started with Green Cleaning
There’s often a debate about whether or not natural cleaning products are as effective as their chemical counterparts. Whilst there’s no denying that chemical products can do the job, they are inherently designed to knock over everything in their path…including us!
In my opinion, the safety and health of my family is the most important factor. Typical chemical-laden cleaning formulas are hazardous and irritating to the skin. We’re even warned to wear plastic gloves whilst using them!
For me, it’s a no-brainer. Over the years I’ve equipped myself with a great collection of natural cleaning ingredients, safe for everyone in the house.
My Favourite Natural Cleaning Ingredients
This household staple is amazing for cleaning windows, mopping floors and disinfecting surfaces. Mix white vinegar with citrus peels for an all-purpose spray cleaner.
Something everybody has in their home, this tasty treat is a life-saver for soaking up red wine spills on clothing, table cloths or rugs.
An old and faithful solution, make a cleaning paste by mixing baking soda and water together. Spread this over your oven and leave for a few hours then wipe off for an extra-shiny, chemical-free clean.
One of my favourite natural cleaning secrets, lemon is amazing for its acidic properties. You can use it to clean your wooden chopping board. Simply sprinkle salt across the board and use half a lemon to rub the salt in and scour it – remember to squeeze slightly as you scrub.
Lavender Essential Oil
I love this one because it smells so good. Add 4-5 drops of lavender essential oil to your vinegar cleaning mixture to boost its natural antibacterial properties. Use for homemade dish soap and linen spray to elevate washing dishes and laundry day.
Since switching to natural cleaning products I’ll never go back!
